49ers star calls Mike Evans ‘the right addition that we need’

After signing veteran receiver Mike Evans this offseason, everyone has praise for the San Francisco 49ers, including some of the team’s players.

49ers star linebacker Kyle Juszczyk is especially excited about the acquisition. He told Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area that Evans is the true No. 1 receiver the 49ers can focus on first.

“Obviously, offensively, you have to focus on Mike Evans first,” Juszczyk said. “How long has a true one-on-one outside winner been around in the NFL? I think it’s going to be a seamless transition. It’s just the right addition that we need.”

Juszczyk also pointed out that the addition of Evans and veteran wide receiver Christian Kirk will improve the level of young receivers such as Ricky Pearsall, Jacob Coyne and Demarcus Robinson.

“With the productivity that they have and the leadership that these guys can bring, these additions are not just themselves but Ricky and Jae Coyne and DeMarcus Robinson,” Jazczyk said. “As a whole, I feel like those two guys can elevate the whole team. I’m very excited about that.”

After losing Kendrick Bourne, possibly losing Jauan Jennings and possibly losing Brandon Aiyuk, the 49ers now quietly have a solid group of pass catchers. Evans, Pearsall and Kirk all have extensive NFL experience, with Cowing and Robinson also serving as backup players. With tight end George Kittle still recovering from an Achilles injury, Jake Tonges and star running back Christian McCaffrey should also fill the void nicely.

Adding Evans was a necessary move for the 49ers and one that has drawn praise from the team’s top stars.
