The San Francisco 49ers lost cornerback Charvarius Ward last offseason, and while they added several veterans and a rookie to try to replace him, their secondary remains lacking in 2025.
San Francisco returns their entire cornerback room heading into 2026, with Chase Lucas the only restricted free agent on the team.

Still, the 49ers should add cornerback this offseason, which is why Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay recently selected the team as the team’s best fit for Tairq Woolen in free agency.
“The rival San Francisco 49ers could not only solidify their secondary but also upset their NFC West rivals by luring Woolen away this offseason,” Kay wrote. “The Niners have struggled at outside cornerback and could benefit greatly from adding a 6-foot-4, 210-pound playmaker.
“Woolen has 12 interceptions and 53 passes defensed in his first 64 career games, and at 26 years old he still has enough wear on his tires to make him an excellent option for San Francisco to sign a long-term deal.”
Kay predicts Woolen will sign a four-year, $55 million contract this offseason. That might be a bit pricey for the current 49ers, as they signed Deommodore Lenoir to a massive five-year, $88.88 million contract.

However, having Lenoir, Woolen, Leonardo Green and Upton Stout as their top four cornerbacks would certainly be an improvement over a unit that had a 25% snap rate in 2025 that included Darrell Luter.
