The 2025-26 NFL season for the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t go exactly as planned. Not only was their streak of nine consecutive AFC West titles broken, but last week they were eliminated from the playoffs for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
The team has won three Super Bowls, but starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL in a Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers and backup quarterback Gardner Minshew was injured Sunday against the Tennessee Titans in a 26-9 loss. That leaves third-string quarterback Chris Oladokun available for the remainder of the game and expected to start on Christmas Day against the Denver Broncos.

Oladokun will face a tough task on Christmas Day, as the Chiefs currently trail the Broncos by 13 points at home at BetMGM – the most by an underdog in Kansas City’s nearly 50-year history.
The last time the Chiefs trailed by 13 points at home was on Oct. 3, 1977 against the Oakland Raiders, a 37-28 loss that ended with a 2-12 season record.
The sportsbook line for this game was Broncos -5.5 when Minshew was expected to be the starter, but a combination of Kansas City’s performance at Tennessee, Denver’s ferocious defense and Oladokun’s inexperience made the line grow bigger.
The Chiefs have an overall record of 6-9 this season and a record of 5-9-1. They’re locked into the second half with an 11.5 preseason winning percentage overall and currently own the 12th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
