Two ice fishermen rescued after stranding in Lake Erie
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Two ice fishermen were rescued after a patch of ice broke off on Lake Erie Sunday night and floated a mile offshore, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office said.
The U.S. Coast Guard requested assistance with search and rescue operations around 6:30 p.m. Sunday after reports that a fisherman was unable to return to shore. The pair were discovered using infrared technology and one of them was rescued by a dinghy rescue vessel.
Air 1 assisted in the rescue of a second ice fisherman who was treated by fire officials at Sturgeon Point Marina.
