While it’s not a billion-dollar Powerball jackpot, someone in Southern California woke up on Christmas Day with a lot more money than he had on Christmas Eve.
The much-anticipated Powerball drawing took place on Wednesday night and the winning numbers were: 4-25-31-52-59 Powerball is 19. The Power Play multiplier is 2x.
News broke late Wednesday that a player who purchased a single ticket in Arkansas had won a $1.8 billion jackpot, the second largest lottery jackpot ever in the United States. They can choose between an annuity bonus of $1.817 billion (payable immediately and then 29 times a year, increasing by 5% annually) or a one-time payment of $834.9 million; both prizes are pre-tax.
There was more than just the jackpot won Wednesday night, state lottery officials said, with a total of 770,270 winning tickets drawn across California, with prizes ranging from $4 to $2,811,275, the latter of which was won in Southern California.
According to the California Lottery, a ticket matching all five numbers (but not the Powerball) was sold at a 7-Eleven in Chino Hills. The lucky player was the only person in the state to win the prize; the second-largest prize, $18,510, was won by 23 players across the state who matched four numbers and the Powerball.
Now that the jackpot has been won, the draw begins again. Therefore, the prize for Saturday’s drawing is $20 million.
Powerball tickets are $2 each and are drawn every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 7:59 p.m.
