1 injured, in custody after Lee’s Summit sports venue shooting: Police

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Lee’s Summit Police Department (LSPD) said a shooting occurred at a new sports complex in Lee’s Summit Saturday night.

LSPD confirmed a shooting at TM Fieldhouse on Hamblen Road, south of Bailey Road. Officers were called to the scene around 6:15 p.m.

LSPD confirmed Saturday night that an event was taking place at the venue when two members of a larger political party started fighting, resulting in the two pulling out guns and shooting at each other. LSPD said the two shooters may have known each other.

LSPD said the incident was large, with about 100 people in the gym where the shooting occurred at the time of the shooting.

One suspect took himself to the hospital and is being treated for multiple gunshot wounds that are not life-threatening. The other suspect left the scene and is not yet in custody. It was unclear whether they were injured.

LSPD confirmed no one else was injured in the shooting.

On Saturday night from 5pm to 10pm, TM Fieldhouse is providing free meals to police officers. According to the venue’s Facebook page.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) was also called in to assist, the Highway Patrol said.

LSPD detectives are currently processing evidence at the scene and working to identify the second suspect. At this time, police have not released a description of the suspect.
