The World Cricket Championship 2 (WCC2) won the majority vote of the game category in the “Digital India AatmaNirbhar Bharat Application Innovation Challenge”. According to government opinion polls, WCC 2 won 74% of the votes and is clearly the winner of this challenge. Shortly after the Modi-led government banned 59 Chinese apps including TikTok and UCBrowser, the “AatmaNirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge” was announced in July. This new challenge aims to promote the creation of world-class “Made in India” applications by technicians and entrepreneurial communities.
WCC 2 was developed by NextWave Multimedia and has so far successfully attracted 15 million installations. Although it is clearly the favorite of the game category in the total 8,908 votes received in this section, with 6,607 votes, the mobile game ranked third in the jury’s ruling. In the poll section, the other two games (Hitwit Superstar-3D Cricket Strategy Game and ScarFall: The Royale Combat) only received 13% of the votes.
NextWave Multimedia said that the daily active users of WCC2 surged by 25%. The game’s revenue increased by 20%, and in-app purchases increased by 100%. The “local competitor” model played among family members witnessed a 250% increase when games were offered for free during the “Janata Curfew” weekend. It is reported that this local mobile game will be played in more than 150 countries/regions around the world, including the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, the UAE, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
PR Rajendran, co-founder and CEO of Nextwave Multimedia, said in a statement: “We thank the Indian government for creating a platform to showcase and encourage Digital India. We hope this will become an annual event. We thank our fans for their support in 2006. Vote for the AatmaNirbharApp People’s Choice Award. This brings us visibility and will inspire us to further develop our achievements so far.”
In addition to the game category, the Mall91 application ranked first in the business category, and the “Hello English: Learn English” application ranked first in the e-learning category. In the health category, the StepSetGo app won first place, while the MemeChat app won the challenge in the entertainment category.
NextWave Multimedia also recently launched the WCC 3 beta version. It features bilingual comments by celebrity cricketers such as Aakash Chopra and Matthew Hayden. The new game has a competitive multiplayer focus, adding realism to the actual cricket simulation, brand new controls and animations. WCC 3 also has a complete career mode, and can participate in more than 400 competitions.
