Woman lured ex boyfriend into a trap and then filmed his “brutal assault”

A woman lured her ex-boyfriend into a trap and then laughed while filming friends attacking him in his car, a court heard.

Summer Marl-Brock, 21, called her ex-partner for help but when he arrived he was subjected to a “really brutal attack” which she planned with her cousin David Brock and another man Aaron Evans.

Benjamin Edwards, 24, was punched, kicked and bitten on the face during the attack.

All three defendants admitted wounding with intent and were jailed.

The night of the attack, Mal-Brock contacted Edwards to say she had been out drinking alone. He agrees to come to her because he’s worried, and they arrange to meet halfway through Yuro’s store.

Prosecutor Gemma Gordon said: “Unbeknownst to Mr Edwards, Summer Marr-Brock was with David Brock and Aaron Evans and they were laying in wait.”

Edwards was punched, kicked and bitten in the face by Bullock through the driver’s side door, while Evans attacked him through the passenger side door, Gordon said.

Edwards suffered bleeding from his eyes, bruising and swelling to his face and head, a minor fracture to his jaw, bite marks and a cut to his ear.

At one point, Edwards crashed his car while trying to escape, but eventually escaped and called police.

Marbrook filmed the prolonged attack until she was sure Edwards had been injured enough to hear laughter. Judge Simon Mills said she called Bullock to stop when the incident became “out of control”.

In a victim personal statement, Edwards said he had trouble sleeping, suffered nightmares and now had difficulty in social situations. He had a panic attack and the scars on his body reminded him of the incident.

Gordon said Edwards and Mal-Brock had been in a relationship for 12 months, with both parties alleging violence in the relationship.

Malblock kept telling others that this was the “catalyst” for what happened next.

Bullock sent Edwards a message saying: “Who do you think you are hitting my cousin Summer?”

Gordon said Edwards tried to reassure Bullock but instead sent threatening messages.

Bullock, 38, of High Street, Mold, admitted wounding with intent. Evans, 34, of Holway, Holywell, and Malbrook, of Hall Street, Ross, Wrexham, later admitted the same offences.

The court heard Bullock had 14 convictions for 29 offences, including assault, driving offences, malicious communication, public order offenses and possessing an offensive weapon. Judge Mills said the attack was a “clear escalation” in his violent offending.

Aaron Evans has 31 convictions for 54 offences, including assault, shoplifting, intent to supply drugs, drunken disorder, assault, driving offences, racially aggravated assault and assault on emergency workers.

The court heard Mal-Brock had previous convictions for driving offences.

Maria Marcelis, defending, said Evans was drunk at the time of the incident. The court also heard he was married and they had 11 children who would be fatherless if he was jailed.

Andrew Jebb, defending Marr-Bullock, said she suffered from anxiety, depression, bulimia and anorexia. She recently suffered a stroke and required hospitalization. She was also diagnosed with a hole in her heart that needed to be repaired.

Judge Mills said: “You all played your respective roles in a truly brutal attack.”

The judge added that the video recorded by Mar-Brock was “truly shocking evidence”.

“The biting was a particularly gruesome feature of this case,” Mr Edwards was given no chance to defend himself and was “trapped” in the car.

On Thursday, Judge Mills sentenced Evans to six years and three months in prison, Bullock to seven years and two months, and Mar-Brock to 54 months in prison.

They were both sentenced to 15-year orders banning contact with the victim.
