Will Shreyas Iyer play today? PBKS sweat over captain’s fitness ahead of CSK clash

As Kings XI Punjab prepare to take on Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, there is cautious optimism about Shreyas Iyer’s availability.

Ayer suffered a painful blow to his wrist in the last game after being hit by Cooper Connolly’s powerful shot at the non-striker’s end, raising immediate concerns about his participation in this high-profile match.

However, early signs suggest PBKS could get a major boost. Assistant coach Brad Hardin confirmed the injury was not serious, easing concerns within training camp.

“(The bone) is not broken, which is a good thing. It’s just a matter of getting the swelling down and getting some movement back in the hand, so he should be good for tomorrow,” Hardin said.

The update comes as a relief to Punjab, especially as Iyer’s leadership and batting are crucial to their plans this season. The skipper reportedly looked in good shape during training and even cleared the ropes with ease, suggesting his recovery is on track.

PBKS comes into the match with momentum after a strong start to the season, including a win over the Gujarat Titans. Their recent record at Chepauk has further boosted confidence, having won at the venue in each of the last three seasons – a rare feat against CSK at home.

Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, found themselves under pressure early on after a poor showing in their first match against Rajasthan Royals. The match could turn out to be a high-scoring affair as conditions in Chennai are expected to be more favorable for batting.
