WhatsApp is actively developing a “vacation mode” feature to enable users to keep archived chat history in the archive even when they receive new messages. Currently, WhatsApp cancels archived chats when new messages are received, and Vacation Mode tries to prevent this from happening. The latest Android version of WhatsApp beta has improved the holiday mode feature and hints that WhatsApp is actively developing this feature, including UI adjustments to the “Archived Chat” section. This feature is still under development and has not been enabled for public beta testing.
The instant messaging platform has released the latest WhatsApp Beta for Android v126.96.36.199, and WhatsApp-watchers WABetaInfo dives into its code to see all the new features that WhatsApp may be using. The feature tracker found that WhatsApp is busy developing holiday mode features. As mentioned earlier, this new feature allows users to keep chat history in the archive when they receive a new message. In past Beta updates, WhatsApp blocked archived chats that were automatically unmute after receiving new messages, but this new Beta version recommends WhatsApp users to archive them without mute.
Some changes are also recorded in the interface, for example, after enabling “Vacation Mode” to increase visibility, “Archived Chats” may move to the top of the chat list. In this update, WhatsApp is also committed to introducing “Archived Chat Features” with a new tagline: “Move here to keep silent chats” and add “Chats with new messages will not return to the main Chat list. This implies that the behavior of the archived chat feature will change for all archived chats. Currently, the tracker says that even in the latest Beta version, these new adjustments have not been enabled for users.
