Arguably the best T20 batsman in the world right now, Suryakumar Yadav is enjoying a purple patch like never before in his career. After being sacked early against Pakistan, Surya made up for the defeat against the Netherlands, with a 25-ball 51 to help India to 179 in the 2022 World Cup T20 on Thursday. Surya had just one six in his innings, and that was in the final innings. The six that Surya hit also helped him reach his top 50 at the T20 World Cup.

Suryakumar came to the crease after captain Rohit Sharma left, and he did it himself for half a century. Surya and Kohli then orchestrated a 95-run undefeated partnership for the third wicket. While Surya finished with a 51, Kohli had a 44-ball 62.

Surya made his half-century debut at the World Cup, needing five runs, smashing the bowler on the thin-leg boundary with an outrageous shot. After the game, the scorer and Kohli celebrated the milestone in epic fashion. Here is the video:

Talking about his performance during the break, Surya said: “I enjoyed hitting here and enjoying that partnership. When I went in, Virat bhai just said keep hitting, so I just expressed myself. It’s great to see everyone coming here to support us, my wife too Around, so it’s a good support as well. The wicket is a bit two-step, it’s a good defensive score. (About Virat Kohli) His batting is excellent, he just sticks to his routine and flow. I I really enjoyed playing with him.”

A win over the Netherlands would put India on pole for the final, having already Pakistan in the final race. India next faces a tough South African test on Sunday. Proteas are one of the strongest teams in the group and will compete for one of the four semi-final spots.
