Washington rallies from 18-point deficit to beat No. 24 USC 84-76

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Hannes Steinbach scored 24 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds and Washington fought back from an 18-point first-half deficit to beat No. 24 Southern California 84-76 on Saturday, ending an 11-game skid for the Trojans and earning its first win in Los Angeles since 2017.

Desmond Claude added 22 points and Wesley Yates III scored 16 for the Huskies (6-3, 1-1 Big Ten). They beat UCLA 82-80, trailing by 16 points but hitting a potential game-winning 3-pointer as the final buzzer sounded.

This time, the Huskies were not denied.

After a slow start in the first half, they scored 13 points in the second half on 6-for-8 shooting. The Trojans missed five of their first six shots.

USC regrouped and extended its lead to 12 points and led by 10 as the Huskies reeled off their winning streak. After the game started, Washington went on a 13-0 spurt. Steinbach scored 7 points, including a three-pointer, helping Washington take the lead for the first time since the start of the game.

USC never led again and was eliminated as an undefeated team.

Crowder followed with a 3-pointer, and USC only managed three 3-pointers in the final minutes.

Chad Baker-Mazzara scored 21 points for the Trojans (8-1, 1-1). Jordan Marsh contributed 17 points.

The Trojans lost Rodney Rice, their second-leading scorer at 20.3 points per game, to a shoulder injury. Linebacker Amarion Dickerson is out for three to four months with a right hip injury.

Next

Washington hosts Southern Utah on Saturday.

USC visits San Diego on Tuesday, which has lost five straight games.
