As the “Fast and Furious” franchise draws to a close, star and producer Vin Diesel is trying to end his feud with former co-star Dwayne Johnson for the two-part finale “The Fast and the Furious” Passion 10 is in preparation. The two fell out in “Fast and Furious 8” aka “Fate of the Furious.” In an Instagram post shared by Diesel on Sunday, the 54-year-old actor extended an olive branch to his former co-star, 49. Diesel apparently wants Johnson and his Fast and Furious characters Luke Hobbs and Dominic Toretto to reunite for the final two-part chapter.
“My little brother Dwayne…the time has come,” Diesel wrote in a caption on Instagram. “The whole world is waiting for the finale of 10. As you know, my kids call you Uncle Dwayne in my house. There’s not a vacation they and you don’t wish for…but the time has come. Legacy awaits.” I told you many years ago that I will keep my promise to Pablo [Paul Walker]. I swear we will reach and show the best Fast in the final episode 10! I say this out of love…but you have to show up, don’t let the team sit idle, you have a very important role to play. Hobbes cannot be played by other people. I hope you will come forward and fulfill your mission. “
Diesel publicly discussed their fallout in June, chalking it up to the “tough love” he used to get Johnson to behave like Hobbes. Johnson responded to it with a laugh in an interview in October, calling it a “bull–t.” In that interview, Johnson also talked about Diesel calling himself a “big brother”: “I have a big brother, my half-brother. That’s it.” Johnson reiterated what he first pointed out in 2016 , i.e. they have “fundamentally different ideas about how we approach filmmaking and collaboration”. Given all of this, it seems unlikely that Johnson wants to return to Fast & Furious 10 — but never say never, right?
Franchise veteran director Justin Lin, who is in charge of both parts of Fast and Furious 10, is also hopeful. In April, Lin said: “I never really thought they were gone, you know what? To me, they’re still in this universe; they’re part of this family. No matter what we do, whenever we talk about the next One chapter, I never felt like I had any limitations, so I’m excited about what we’ve built, and as we’re about to enter the final chapter of this saga, I think I’m happy to revisit…anything The characters, in any case, are worth discussing.” Lin also talked about the return of Walker’s character Brian O’Connor with the help of CGI and the Walker brothers. Can Fast and Furious 10 bring everyone back?
Fast & Furious 10 opens in theaters worldwide on April 7, 2023. Production is expected to start in January 2022, so Diesel and Johnson have a few months (or more) to make up.
