UConn women’s basketball lands as No. 1 overall seed in first NCAA bracket reveal

If the season ended today, the UConn women’s basketball team would be the top seed in the 2026 NCAA Tournament. The selection committee announced the top 16 teams for the first time on Saturday, with the Huskies at the top of the list.

UConn is the last undefeated team in the country with a 27-0 record. The defending national champions have six Quad 1 wins and seven Quad 2 wins, which is good enough for No. 1 in the NCAA NET rankings. The Huskies also topped the Associated Press Poll, Bart Torvik Rankings and her Basketball Stats Ratings.

UConn currently ranks 18th in schedule strength, one spot behind No. 3 South Carolina and four spots ahead of No. 4 Vanderbilt, but that’s been held back by a weak Big East conference. The Huskies have the toughest time among power conference teams in nonconference.

Elsewhere in the bracket, UConn defeated four other teams in the top 16: No. 6 Michigan, No. 7 Louisville, No. 9 Ohio State and No. 11 Iowa.

The next group announcement will be on March 1st. Selection Sunday is scheduled for March 15 at 8 p.m. ET.
