The NFL Draft is getting closer, which means pro days are all the rage. For the Dallas Cowboys, one of the positions they’ve been focusing on is cornerback, and one of their favorite targets may have just lost competition at No. 12.th Overall selection.
Mansoor Delane had two 40-yard rushes at LSU’s pro day, which may have put him in the final box as the unquestioned top CB in the draft. Running sub 4.4 once might be luck, but running it twice is nothing like luck.
The Cowboys and DeLine have built connections in the draft community since the pre-draft process began. The standout corner is a popular name for the Cowboys as they’re a top first-round selection, but lately it’s been hard to imagine Delane making it all the way to the Big 12th Pick. Now, with the pace of his pro day clock, it might be nearly impossible for Derain to be an option for Dallas.

Already projected to be the first CB off the board in late April, that could put Delaine’s draft stock safely in the top ten. Add in the fact that teams in need of a CB are ahead of the Cowboys in the draft, and DeLeon’s dreams of wearing a star appear to be dead. The Kansas City Chiefs’ ninth pick could be the floor for a CB who has checked out every category in the draft tool box.
The Cowboys addressed some of their CB needs by signing Cobie Durant to pair with DaRon Bland and Shavon Revel, but Derain could have been a starter. Considering Brand’s injury history and status, coupled with Revell’s continued recovery from an ACL injury, selecting Delane will provide the defense with more stable CB space.
The Cowboys have other options in the draft, but the consensus No. 1 pick looks like he’s too good to be selected with the 12th overall pick in the first round. Everyone wants to be a Cowboy, until they need fuel at pro day to become one!
Jokes aside, DeLaine is a promising player if he gets drafted by the Cowboys at No. 12 overall. It’s unlikely that will happen again, and if the Cowboys do want DeLaine, an upgrade could be the way to make that happen.

Dallas has traded LSU’s CB before, and they may have to do it again if they want DeLaine.
