Tom Brady not cheering for Patriots to beat Seahawks in Super Bowl LX

New England Patriots legend Tom Brady refuses to pick a side when it comes to selecting the winner of Super Bowl X.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion revealed on Jim Gray’s Let’s Go podcast that he is focused on the quality of this weekend’s game in Santa Clara, California, rather than the outcome.

“I just want to see good football. I want to see good plays, good passes, good strategies, good decisions. That’s the joy of the game to me,” Brady said. “I have no dog in this fight. May the best team win.”

Given that Brady won six of his seven Super Bowl rings with the Patriots, his decision not to support his former team surprised many, including Boston 25’s Gene Lavanchy and Nicole Gabe.

“He said he didn’t ‘have a dog in this fight.’ He had a dog in this fight. He had a very loyal dog, a very friendly dog, a house-trained dog, a dog that didn’t bark at strangers,” Ravanchi told Tuesday’s edition of The Boston Morning Post. “Oh my gosh, he’s a patriot! That’s weird to me.

Gabe added, “Everything he said about Derek Meyer as well… I mean, he just complimented him. Derek Meyer looked up to him as well… It’s kind of surprising, especially after having that statue in front of Gillette.”

Lavanch speculated that Brady may be trying to maintain his independence as a broadcaster or remain impartial since he is also a part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Brady did tell Gray that he’s excited to see the Patriots succeed under first-year head coach Mike Vrabel, his teammate of eight years in the 2000s.

This is a new chapter in New England as far as the Patriots are concerned and I’m glad everyone is embracing the Mike Vrabel regime and all the great players who have worked so hard to get their club to this position. We’ve been doing this for 20 years. There’s been some hiatus in between, but the Patriots are back and it’s a very exciting time for everyone in New England. “

The Patriots and Seahawks will tip off the Super Bowl on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
