Something did go wrong for the LSU baseball team on Monday night. After defeating Northeastern 3-1 on Saturday, the Huskies got revenge with an 11-2 victory over the Tigers at Alex Box Stadium. This game was the polar opposite of every other game LSU played over the weekend.
Cooper Williams got the start off the mound, but things started to go south after a scoreless first inning. Northeastern scored four runs in the second inning behind a miscue by the Tigers defense. Cowan’s performance in the third game was not good. An RBI single and a three-run homer chased Cowan off the mound, but Northeastern had yet to finish the scoring. They scored two more runs, and after three innings, LSU trailed 10-0.

LSU then outscored Northeastern 10-3 between the fourth and ninth innings, but it wasn’t enough to erase their 10-point deficit. LSU drops to 11-2 on the season and will face UL-Lafayette on Wednesday. Here are three takeaways from the game.
Zach Cowan is struggling
Starting pitcher Zac Cowan, 26, of the LSU Tigers against Little Rock during Game 7 of the 2025 NCAA Div 1 Regional Baseball Championship at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, Los Angeles. Monday, June 2, 2025.
For Zach Cowan, it wasn’t the start of the season anyone imagined. Cowan allowed 4 runs on 5 hits in 1.2 innings tonight and has only allowed 6 runs on 12 hits in 4 innings this year. His ERA was 13.50.
Yamin is the highlight
Edward Yameen IV was one of the few bright spots for LSU tonight. The redshirt junior hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to end the game at three games to two.

Errors are a big problem
LSU Tigers baseball vs. Northeastern University. Saturday, February 28, 2026.
LSU’s defense committed four errors tonight against Northeastern, two of which came during Northeastern’s four-run second inning. If LSU wants to defend its national title, it will have to address these mistakes before conference play begins.
