Season 3 of The Witcher is set to premiere in summer 2023. At its online-only event, Tudum 2022, Netflix released a trailer for the Henry Cavill-led dark fantasy series featuring Geralt’s shattered medallion—its pieces take the form of a circular swallow and a star. Season 3 follows Geralt’s journey into the fortress of Aretuza, where he again escorts Cintra’s Ciri (Freya Allan), who is revealed to have Elder Blood running in her veins. Anya Chalotra returns to play the sorceress Yennefer, with whom she maintains a complicated relationship.
Plot details for The Witcher season 3 are still unknown, but clues in teaser images suggest this chapter will see the trio team up to protect Ciri from danger. For the uninitiated, the swallow symbol can be translated as Zireael, an ancient gwyhyr sword forged by the gnomes of Tir Tochair – given to Ciri as a gift. Meanwhile, the inverted star symbol is the obsidian, which Yennefer has worn in both the Netflix series and the CD Projekt Red video game.

In season 2, Geralt (Cavill) discovers that Ciri possesses otherworldly powers far beyond the knowledge of Monster Hunter. So he enlists the help of his former lover, Yennefer, to understand its intricacies and how she can master it to avoid any danger. But upon reaching Aretuza’s grounds, the group realizes they’ve landed on a battlefield fraught with political corruption, black magic, and treachery.
The Witcher Season 2 Review: Better, But Henry Cavill’s Netflix Series Has Some Way To Go
Filming for The Witcher season 3 began in April, with Netflix unveiling a lineup of four directors. This includes Stephen Surjik (The Umbrella Academy), Gandja Monteiro (New Cherry), Loni Peristere (American Horror Story) and Bola Ogun (lucifer).
With the exception of Surjik, who directed the first two episodes of The Witcher season 2, everyone is new to the world of The Witcher. Based on past trends and the fact that there are four directors, we can assume each director will direct two episodes each of the upcoming seasons. Season 3 of The Witcher also introduced new members Zhang Menger (Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings) and Robbie Amell (The Nanny).
The Witcher 3 is set to release exclusively on Netflix in summer 2023. Mind you, that’s American summer, not Indian summer.
