What’s the biggest new TV show coming in October 2022? After two months gave us two big-budget epic fantasy films — Game of Thrones prequel spin-off Dragon Palace in August and Lord of the Rings prequel spin-off The Ring of Thrones in September — October is downright quiet. No title can match these two champions, who are both wrapping up their first seasons this month. That said, there’s plenty of variety to choose from in October, whether it’s Irish comedy, American horror, VR-driven sci-fi, a drama set in Mumbai, or a wealthy satire set in Sicily.

Derry Girls Season 3

When: October 7th
Location: Netflix

The Girls – Erin (Saoirse Monica Jackson), Ola (Louisa Harlan), Claire (Nicola Coughlan) and Michelle (Jamie Lee O’Donnell) – and “I’m a Derry Girl” James (Dylan Llewellyn) anxiously await their GCSE results at the start of the third and final season. (GCSE equivalent to Indian Grade 11.)

The Derry Girls season 3 trailer promises Sister George Michael (Siobhán McSweeney) will appear in DMC DeLorean just as she left Back to the Future. We’ll actually see something from the future – a 45-minute flash-forward special airing after the season finale takes us back to the days when the British and Irish governments signed the Good Friday Agreement.

Delayed for a few years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Derry Girls season 3 premiered on Channel 4 in the UK in mid-April. It took nearly six months to reach Netflix around the world. All seven episodes of Derry Girls season 3 will be available together for binge-watching.

midnight club

When: October 7th
Location: Netflix

Mike Flanagan, based on Christopher Pike’s novel “The Midnight Club,” returns for this spooky season. Aditya (Iman Benson) is the latest entrant to Brightcliffe Hospice, a home for terminally ill teens coming together in their final moments. Led by the enigmatic Dr. Georgina Stanton (Heather Langenkamp), the place seems to have an eerie vibe, especially in the basement.

At midnight, seven kids, including Aida, gather to tell horror stories — akin to Nickelodeon’s “Aren’t You Afraid of the Dark?” It’s just the tone is colder. One night they made a deal that the first person to die of the disease must communicate with the living beyond the grave. After the death of one of them, a strange series of circumstances ensues, causing every waking hour to be filled with tension and sickness.

It’s also refreshing to see Flanagan throw some jump scares into his mix, which is thematically in line with the immature and predictable stories these kids tell every night. As with most Netflix productions, all 10 episodes of Midnight Club will stream on day one.

Mismatch Season 2

When: October 14
Location: Netflix

Things ended badly between Dimple Ahuja (Prajakta Koli) and Rishi Singh Shekhawat (Rohit Saraf) at the end of season one – and the two ex-lovers are in other people’s arms as season two begins Find solace. Dimple is close with Harsh (Vihaan Samat) while Rishi is in love with photographer Sanskriti (Sanjana Sarathy).

Meanwhile, Dimple is still — naturally — brooding over the leak of the source code for her app, AntiSosh. She wants to find out who is behind it, but her professor Siddharth Sinha (Rannvijay Singha) wants her to move on. Meanwhile, Mismatched season 2 is also expected to continue its LGBTQ+ themes, explorations of mental health and augmented reality dancing.

Vidya Malvade, Muskkaan Jaferi, Taaruk Raina, Kritika Bharadwaj and Abhinav Sharma also return as part of the Mismatched season 2 cast. Akarsh Khurana is back as director.

All episodes of Mismatched Season 2 will be released simultaneously on October 14th.

When: October 14
Venue: Apple TV+

The 12-episode series stars Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) as a drug-addicted escapee from an Australian prison in 1980s Mumbai. Adapted from the novel of the same name by Gregory David Roberts, Shantaram follows the journey of a desperate foreigner who loses himself in the chaotic and unfamiliar Indian city in search of purpose. With enough experience with heroin and other substances, he reinvented himself as a doctor – thanks to a fake passport – a welcome sign in Mumbai’s battered slums.

As fate would have it, Hunnam’s Lin stumbles in love with Karla (Antonia Desplat), who seeks to unravel his secret. In the book, she offers him several Bollywood film roles as an extra, eventually elevating his status until he is recruited by the criminal underworld headed by Khad Khan (Alexander Siddig). Not a long-lasting relationship plan, is it? It was also mentioned he is fluent in Marathi, although we are very skeptical to see this in the show.

Apple acquired the rights to the book in 2018, after which they cast Radhika Apte (“Sacred Games”) as Indian journalist Kavita Singh. Now, however, plans appear to have changed, with the studio opting for Sujaya Dasgupta (Shadow and Bone).

Shantaram will premiere episodes on October 14, and the remaining nine episodes will run weekly from Friday to November 25.

When: October 21
Where: Amazon Prime Video

Westworld creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan are behind the new sci-fi drama about Flynn Fisher (Chloë Grace Moretz), Living in small town America in the near future, she’s pulled into a different world – London, where there’s a giant marble statue? ! — thanks to an experimental new virtual reality (VR) headset. Hey, I want one too!

But for Fisher, doesn’t seem like an escape. One, everything that happens inside the “perimeter” – as they call it – is real. Second, it’s not a different world. This could be the future of her world. As one character in The Peripheral’s trailer puts it, “It hasn’t happened yet.” Hunted by various creatures, Fisher must figure out how to stay alive.

Jack Reynor, Gary Carr and Alexandra Billings are also part of The Peripheral’s cast. Scott B. Smith (siberia) is the creator of the new Amazon series, adapting the first novel in William Gibson’s unfinished Jackpot trilogy. (The second novel is published in 2020. The third is coming soon.)
