Kansas Jayhawk News
According to SI, the Jayhawks’ conference and national championship hopes appear to be on the mend after their big win on Big Monday:
Kansas will have a chance to make up lost ground in a few weeks when the Jayhawks host Houston on Big Monday, Feb. 23, before traveling to Tucson a few days later to face Arizona State in the rematch on Feb. 28.
If KU can somehow pull off two wins, they will almost certainly be league champions by the end of the season. If they do win the division, it would be the first time since the 2022-23 season.
FanSided’s Erica Brockish wonders if Bill Self might have ruffled some feathers when he talked about the game on Monday night:
“Guys, we’re going to play a bigger game than this, just like Arizona is going to play a bigger game than this, but this is probably a bigger game that college basketball has ever experienced,” Self said. “I could be wrong. So far, I would say.”
Bruce Pearl and Jalen Rose discuss Peterson’s limited availability and the impact it could have on his draft status:
“I don’t think it’s going to impact his draft stock because I think to everybody in the league that I’ve talked to, he still looks like he’s No. 1. But if I were coaching in the NBA, I’m sorry to say, I would be concerned about missing 11 of 24 games with a hamstring, a quad strain, illness, just a long list of different things,” Pearl said.
Busting Brackets’ Frank Sciarroni (never heard of it) looks at how good KU is without Darryn Peterson:
Ultimately, Peterson’s absence didn’t matter as Kansas put in a gritty defensive performance in the second half and secured the victory behind big man Flory Bidenga’s stellar play, handing Arizona its first loss of the season in front of a raucous Allen Fieldhouse crowd.
ABC10 wanted to know if Flory made the best case for Big 12 Player of the Year. We didn’t see that early in the season. (The link is to the video, for reference only)

There wasn’t a lot of news in football, but a few Jayhawks did become Super Bowl champions over the weekend. Is this a sign of how bad the game is, that it’s basically had a memory hole, or is it just in my head?

The Kansas Daily published an article on the new Muppet Show and claimed it was as good as ever. I haven’t heard much about it but will have to check it out.
In September 1976, the sketch variety show “The Muppet Show” premiered; less than five years later, on March 15, 1981, the show ended. The show will return starting February 4, 2026, and guest star Sabrina Carpenter and executive producer Seth Rogen have given the Muppets a good start for their return.
With the new wing opening, we had some competition in town for the new Olive Garden.
Slate’s Alex Kirshner warns that Olympic hockey is about to become a Trump rival.
Now, 46 years later, the U.S. Olympic team enters a very different environment at the Cortina Games in Milan. This year’s USA Hockey team, men and women, are not weaklings, unlike the “Miracle on Ice” team. But they are once again preparing for a meeting with a country that has been in its government’s geopolitical crosshairs.
Will it die in 2020?
The FBI’s investigation into the 2020 election in Fulton County, Georgia, was initiated by an attorney working for the Trump administration who also assisted President Trump in his attempt to overturn that election several years ago, according to an affidavit unsealed Tuesday.
Problems may arise along the Mexican border as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) suspends flights near El Paso for the next 10 days.
The temporary flight restrictions began late Tuesday night for “extraordinary safety reasons,” according to a notice on the FAA’s website. Flights will be banned until February 20.
