As of Monday afternoon, the GoFundMe had raised nearly double its original goal of $12,000 for Aguilera. Her mother, Stephanie Rodriguez, shared a post on the page on Sunday, thanking everyone for their “love and support at this time.”

The grieving mother said her daughter’s “unexpected death” had been “a huge challenge but I have found strength in the outpouring of kindness”.

“I’ve experienced every parent’s worst fears, but I take comfort in knowing that my Brie touched so many hearts,” Rodriguez continued. “I appreciate every word and every emotion you shared about my Brie… She adored each and every one of you, and while my princess lives in a brighter realm, I take comfort in the memories we created together.”

Rodriguez said she was able to “find peace” knowing her “little angel and princess are with God” and told supporters she would “let them know” when to hold the ceremony for her daughter.

According to GoFundMe, Aguilera graduated from Magna Cum Lade High School in Laredo, Texas, where she served as a cheerleader. The young woman is pursuing her “dream of becoming a lawyer and attending Texas A&M University’s Bush School of Government and Public Service,” the fundraiser said.

“Her dream was to always be an AGGIE!” her family said.
