TexAgs’ Billy Liucci praises Texas A&M’s ‘reloaded’ 2026 roster

Texas A&M’s 2026 spring football season begins Friday, March 20, and third-year head coach Mike Elko has assembled a roster of 17 recruits from the transfer portal, while key starters and backups for the 2025 season have re-signed with the program, including redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed.

If I were to predict national coverage about the Aggies this offseason, Marcel Reed’s inability to consistently beat Final Four opponents with winning records would be the talking point every time Texas A&M is brought up in the media. However, after losing his offensive and defensive coordinators, the promotion of five staff members, including new OC Hallmon Wiggins, will also be widely discussed.

Sixteen days before the start of the spring season, one of the more prominent voices in Texas A&M media and TexAgs co-owner Billy Liucci appeared on The Paul Finebaum Show to give a brief preview of his expectations for the Aggies in 2026, focusing on the Aggies’ transfer success, believing the roster has been “reloaded” and avoiding a rebuild.

“I like what they’re doing with the portal,” Liucci said. “Especially coming from the SEC. I think they can get back to the (College Football Playoff). I think they’re going to build on last year. Everything is trending upward and I think that’s going to continue.”

While this is just the opinion of a seasoned analyst, Mike Elko and his staff deserve a lot of credit for reloading the roster with seasoned veterans with NFL potential, led by former Alabama wide receiver Isaiah Horton and Northwestern transfer edge Anto Sacca.

However, Texas A&M’s secondary now features Colorado transfer safety Taufik Byard and Tennessee transfer cornerback Ricky Gibson, who are expected to make a big impact in an already established defensive backfield.
