Steelers to meet with former Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy for vacany

The Pittsburgh Steelers immediately stepped up their search for a new head coach. On Saturday, ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter broke the news that a ninth candidate has been added to the list of candidates, and he is former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy.

McCarthy has ties to the Pittsburgh area and has been a name fans have wanted to replace Mike Tomlin in the past. McCarthy also has a history with Steelers general manager Omar Khan.

As far as Steelers candidates go, none can match McCarthy’s experience.

From 2006 to 2018, McCarthy served as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers. McCarthy helped the Packers defeat the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV. From 2020 to 2024, McCarthy serves as the head coach of the Cowboys. McCarthy’s career record is 185-123-2, including playoffs. McCarthy, by the way, was Aaron Rodger’s head coach during his time with the Packers, and hiring McCarthy could impact Rodgers’ future with the team.
