(FOX 5/KUSI) — Traffic on I-805 through Mission Valley is experiencing delays in the morning after a semi-truck was destroyed after catching fire in the southbound lane.
The semi-truck caught fire at 6 a.m. in the far right southbound lane of the highway between Murray Ridge and Interstate 8.

Images taken by a news helicopter showed the semi-truck and its trailer were destroyed, with the cab completely gutted to nothing but metal.
Officials have not yet revealed what may have caused the fire.
Southbound I-805 is expected to be closed for about five hours, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said traffic heading south on Interstate 805 toward downtown San Diego should be diverted to Highway 163.
The CHP said vehicles that had been stuck in the southbound lanes for about an hour because of the fire were directed past the incident shortly after 7:15 a.m.
