Xanh Quang won the individual championship with a score of 74. Freshman Will Haag was the second leading scorer with an 83, Landon Nofield shot a 94, Dexter Jenks shot a 99 and Gunner Norman shot a 100 as the Gulls’ fifth player.
Head coach Jim Poetsch said The Dalles Course is always a good early start for golfers because of the weather. He also had high praise for his freshman golfers.
“The Dalles has always been a huge test for golf, and the wind really makes the course difficult,” Poch said in a release. “Xanh played a great round of golf and birdied the last hole, 413 yards, uphill into the wind, four strokes. Will also played a great round of golf and shot a par of 10 on the day.
“He’s going to be a really good player for us over the next four years. We’ve got about five more guys who are about to put up some really good numbers. Once a couple of them get over it, we’re going to start putting up some really low numbers.”
The Gulls will next travel to Pumpkin Ridge on Thursday, April 2 to compete in the Bank Invitational.
