Samsung Galaxy S25 FE First Impressions

After multiple appearances online over the past few months, the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE has finally been launched in global markets. It comes with all-new hardware, but it’s in packaging we’ve seen before. FE or “Fan Edition” models are often a popular choice among consumers for a variety of reasons. They’re similar to the top-tier Galaxy S series models, with high-end specs, but at a much lower price point. Like previous iterations, the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE slots between the most expensive A-series phones and the entry-level S-series models.

It’s priced this way too. The Samsung Galaxy S25 FE starts at $649 (approximately Rs. 57,200) for the base configuration with 8GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage. It also comes in 256GB and 512GB storage and is priced accordingly. The company is yet to announce the Galaxy S25 FE price in India.

Here are our first impressions of the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE, which is very competitively priced and has a lot to offer from brands like iQOO, Vivo and OnePlus.

Samsung Galaxy S25 FE: Design and display

Like its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE follows the company’s tried-and-tested formula and adopts the design of its flagship Galaxy S series models. It’s very similar to the Galaxy S25, with the same three different camera rings arranged vertically on the back of the phone.

The back panel has a matte texture, which is smooth to the touch, resistant to fingerprints, and feels premium. It’s protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+ (just like a smartphone’s display), while the frame is made from Samsung’s aluminum armor. According to the brand, the Galaxy S25 FE is 0.6 mm thinner and 23 grams lighter than its predecessor. In terms of ergonomics, the phone doesn’t feel too heavy to hold.

The phone is available in Jet Black, Navy Blue and White color options. I saw both navy and white options during my hands-on time, and in my opinion, the navy color option looks more premium.

Similar to the flagship Galaxy S25 model, the bottom houses the speaker grille, SIM card slot, microphone, and USB Type-C port. The Galaxy S25 FE is rated IP68 for dust resistance and water resistance respectively.

The phone features a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display

In terms of display, the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE features a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with Full HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Based on my initial impressions, the panel produces crisp visuals with deep blacks and vibrant colors.

There’s also an in-display fingerprint sensor for biometrics, but I didn’t get a chance to test it. We’ll thoroughly test the screen quality and discuss it in our in-depth review, which should be out soon.

Samsung Galaxy S25 FE: Camera, features and battery

The Samsung Galaxy S25 FE is powered by the company’s proprietary Exynos 2400 chipset, borrowed from last year’s Galaxy S24 series. In our Galaxy S24 review, we found the chip compared favorably with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. However, the Galaxy S25 FE may have a different story to tell, so stay tuned for our review of the phone.

You also get 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. Interestingly, the 128GB variant of the Galaxy S25 FE comes with UFS 3.1, while the 256GB and 512GB variants come with UFS 4.0. One good thing is that the brand continues to offer one of the longest software support periods in the industry, promising seven years of operating system and security updates. It is also the third phone in Samsung’s Galaxy smartphone series to ship with Android 16-based One UI 8.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 FE also comes with several built-in artificial intelligence features. This is the entire Galaxy AI suite, with features like sketch-to-image, interpreter, audio eraser, generative editing, and automatic trimming. It also features Google’s Circle to Search and Gemini Live. The phone also features Now Bar and Now Brief features, which were introduced on the flagship Galaxy S25 series. However, using them requires a Samsung account login and an active internet connection. Adding flagship-level AI capabilities to non-flagship models is certainly an interesting proposition.

In the camera department, the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE features a triple rear camera unit that includes a 50-megapixel wide-angle primary rear sensor, an 8-megapixel telephoto lens, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens. In theory, the wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle cameras are the same as on the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus models. You also get a 12-megapixel sensor on the front for selfies and video calls. The phone is capable of recording videos up to 8K/30fps. We’ll be testing these cameras thoroughly in upcoming reviews to see if they live up to expectations.

Compared to the Galaxy S24 FE, the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE comes with a slightly larger 4,900mAh battery. In theory, the phone should offer longer usage, but you should wait for our detailed battery benchmarks and tests, which will be part of our review. Like its predecessor, it supports 45W wired and 15W Qi2 wireless fast charging.

Samsung said that customers who purchase the Galaxy S25 FE will receive six months of access to Google AI Pro at no additional cost. This gives you access to advanced Gemini models, increased rate limits, Gemini integration into Google apps, and 2TB of cloud storage across Drive, Docs, and Google Photos.

This may increase the price/performance ratio of Samsung Galaxy S25 FE. But will this phone deliver on all the promises it makes? Stay tuned for our in-depth Samsung Galaxy S25 FE review to find out.
