The developer raised some eyebrows with a successful trailer that got fans excited for its release. Now, after spending more than a week with the game—Saints Row releases on August 23rd for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X—I can say that fans’ initial fears have come true. This new game, themed around the criminal life of the Saint, doesn’t have any of the quirky features that made it really stand out and set it apart from Rockstar’s GTA games of the past.
The Saints are back in a new location, the city of San Eliaso. But it would be better if they stayed home and thought about the outing. For example, once you have the ability to establish criminal enterprises, you can establish them anywhere in the city. There was no opportunity to compete for space with rival gangs, which I felt was a missed opportunity.
As long as you stick to the main mission, you can complete it saints row The event takes approximately 15 hours. You can also set up multiple criminal enterprises in San Eliso, including the fan-favorite insurance fraud from previous games. However, the remaining missions involve either clearing out a wave of enemies or stealing a car. In fact, most of the story missions also fall into these two categories, which can make the entire game feel like a grind after 4-5 hours of playing.
Accompanying you on this journey is a new team of Neenah, Eli and Kevin. Each of these characters possess unique traits – Neenah is your getaway driver/mechanic, Eli is the brains of the operation, and Kevin is the party-throwing DJ/chef with many connections in San Eliso. this saints row The developers try to evoke the deep friendships we have with these characters, but never delve too deeply into our history with them.
saints row There’s also no real exploration of the characters themselves. After completing the introductory mission, they will mostly take you to the next mission or assist you in combat if you choose to call in. I never really felt attached to my team, and the game never tried to make me care.

saints row Not a visually appealing game. It suits the cartoon characters on brand, but the world around them is dull. The game has some lighting issues. The draw distance isn’t all that far either, and sometimes things will pop in and out of your field of view. It looks like a game that belongs on a previous generation console.
Disappointingly, it’s not just the graphics that feel dated, the gameplay is stuck in the past. saints row It just wants you to stand in the open and engage in gunfire with an AI that’s brain-dead even on higher difficulties. There are many types of enemies, from infantry to armored mini-bosses, but most can be easily dispatched without any challenge. Also, shooting with a gun is not satisfying saints row – Even with the upgrades, they feel inaccurate and barely do any damage.
You also get some special moves and an execution meter that fills up during battle. These executions can help you regain health, but get old after a few hours and ruin the flow of combat. Additionally, the animation can be glitchy at times, which just makes these executions look awkward. This kind of uncreative combat is definitely the biggest obstacle to enjoyment saints row. I would have been performing difficult missions to expand my criminal empire, but the combat was boring, to say the least.
saints row It’s not a beautiful game either. I’ve experienced games crashing, artifacts popping up on the screen, allies magically appearing in vehicles – the list goes on. I even had my save files corrupted after playing for a few hours. There’s also a bug that prevents your controls from working during missions, which was particularly annoying since it caused me to lose mission progress multiple times.

I had the most fun saints row in the midst of its vehicle battle. For me, sideswiping a police car or gang car and watching them explode never gets old. The ease of drifting also makes me choose a car over a wingsuit or helicopter most of the time. That said, most vehicles handle very similarly and can all be easily drifted. So, I’ve never been interested in building a car collection because any vehicle will do the job.

Call it a reboot, saints row Not an improvement over its predecessor. In every way, the game plays like a game from the PS3 era. It’s not a perfect product, either – broken saves, crashes, visual glitches, and bugs can make the experience an infuriating experience at times.

I think the biggest downfall of Saints Row is the combat. The gun didn’t feel accurate and wasn’t enjoyable to shoot. Furthermore, hand-to-hand combat only appears as an afterthought. The newly added executions seem exciting at first, but then become annoying and continually disrupt the flow of combat.
I really want to enjoy a life of crime saints row That moment when everything goes right is exciting. But overall, it’s not a pleasant experience – even if you decide to sell it. I suggest you put this aside for now to save time and money.
