Rodrygo to miss the World Cup after picking up ACL injury

Real Madrid forward Rodrygo has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury that will rule him out for the rest of the season and the World Cup in the summer.

The Brazilian returned to action for the first time in a month and came on as a second-half substitute in Monday night’s 1-0 home defeat to Getafe.

Rodrygo’s return was short-lived, however, with scans of an injury sustained during the game revealing he would require surgery for an ACL injury.

The news is particularly bad for Alvaro Arbeloa, whose attacking options have been limited by injury ahead of the Champions League quarter-final tie against Manchester City, with Vinicius Júnior and Gonzalo Garcia the only real forwards in Mbappe’s absence.

Rodrigo played a total of 27 times for Real Madrid in the 2025/26 season, scoring 3 goals and providing 4 assists.
