With just over a week left until the start of the new NFL season, the Minnesota Vikings are looking for ways to comply with the salary cap, and word is that they may be looking to part with a more dynamic defensive player.
The Vikings are reportedly “open to” trading edge rusher Jonathan Greenard, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Trading Greenard would save the Vikings more than $12 million in salary cap space.

Greenard signed a four-year, $76 million contract with the Vikings before the 2024 season and had the best season of his career that year. He started all 17 games for the Vikings that season, recording 12 sacks, 59 tackles for loss and four forced fumbles. Last year, he was plagued by multiple injuries and played in only 12 games and had just three sacks (and about 12 “near sacks”) for a total of 38 tackles.
It will be interesting to see what kind of trade market develops for Greenard, considering the team knows the Vikings’ current salary cap situation is a bit tight. You also have to wonder if the Vikings might cut Greenard if they can’t find a trade partner for him, although it stands to reason that he would still be a very valuable player on the Vikings defense.
Guys, what are your thoughts on a potential trade for Jonathan Greenard? If the Vikings traded him, how much do you think they would get in return for him?
