Relief for Barcelona as star defender available for UCL clash vs Atletico Madrid after injury scare

Barcelona’s narrow victory over Atletico Madrid did not come without a price, as the club lost two players, Ronald Araujo and Marc Bernal, to injury.

Araujo initially started in Barcelona’s defence, but suffered a hamstring injury at the end of the first half.

After holding out for around ten minutes, he asked to be substituted and was replaced by Marc Bernal, who picked up an injury within the hour.

Araujo’s injury has sparked concerns within the Barcelona camp as there is a complete lack of options at centre-back, especially with Eric Garcia struggling with fitness issues and Andreas Christensen currently sidelined.

However, it is heartening that Araujo appears to be injury-free during his time at Atletico Madrid.

According to Helena Candice (h/t COPE), the Uruguay international does not have any injuries and will be involved in Wednesday’s Champions League match against Atletico Madrid.

This could be a huge boost for Hansi Flick as he has fewer options on the defensive end.

Therefore, Araujo’s introduction will greatly help his team selection, although the defender will most likely be on the bench against Atletico Madrid.

That’s because Jules Conde and Alejandro Balde are also back, with the likes of Conde expected to start at right-back in midweek.

However, they will still be in contention if neither Araujo is fit enough to start in midweek. Regardless, Flick hopes to have an extra defender available for this crucial game.
