Reliance Jio released JioPages on Wednesday, which is a Chromium Blink-based web browser that supports encrypted connections and other functions, and supports eight Indian languages. It can now be downloaded on Google Play. Reliance Jio emphasized network security and data privacy in the announcement, and also pointed out other features in the Google Play list, such as news content localized in different Indian languages, smart download manager, incognito browsing and themes.
It also has a stealth mode with PIN lock and is built into Adblock Plus. JioPages supports eight Indian languages: Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Gujarati, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali. The user can choose the application language, and can also set regional preferences from different states.
According to the announcement, the browser is based on Chromium Blink and provides “enhanced browsing experience through faster engine migration, best-in-class web page rendering, faster page loading, effective media streaming, Emoji domain support and encrypted connections.”
Jio also stated that JioPages was completely conceptualized and designed in India, although the underlying Blink rendering engine was of course developed by Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Opera Software, Adobe Systems, Intel, IBM, Samsung, etc.
Users will be able to choose the default search engine, in addition to Google, other options include Bing, Yahoo and Duck Duck Go, and JioPages comes with out-of-the-box dark mode themes and other custom themes.
It also includes a browser feed, which is customized based on the user’s language settings and their region and theme settings. The company pointed out that JioPages will also send notifications on “important or interesting pages for users.”
Many of this information will appear in the form of content cards, such as cards with stock market trends, commodity prices, and cricket scores. You can click on these cards to get more detailed information.
The download manager in the browser categorizes downloads according to file type, so you can easily find downloaded pictures, videos, documents and saved pages. The stealth mode has also been adjusted, with a PIN function, which can be used as an access code to enter the stealth mode.
According to the screenshot, the browser has built-in Adblock Plus, which enables adblocking, supports acceptable ad lists and allows users to whitelist domains. You can download JioPages from Google Play here.
