We recently asked members of the BuzzFeed community to share the subtle signs that women are on the right (since a lot of people are wondering how to tell if a man is a closet Republican). Here’s what they shared:
1. “Conservative women tend to be wary of answering how they vote, or say they’re ‘less political’ and pretend to be moderate. (Honestly, all conservatives would probably be inclined to do this if they didn’t think their honest answers would be well received.)”

2. “One sign is when women make excuses for bad male behavior, or still support public figures who have been accused of abuse or right-wing ideals. I think right-wing women are really just people who grew up in and still live in a right-wing dominated community. I think it’s more like Stockholm Syndrome, when a woman is really ***** MAGA. They’re more likely to choose not to see or acknowledge the negative traits of the men in their lives because of the ‘women are crazy’ or ‘making stuff’ narrative that up’s just the norm.”

3. “If a woman doesn’t like Barbie Movies or Taylor Swift, ask why. Usually, this will give you the answer. It’s okay to have different tastes, but if the reason you don’t like them is because they’re overtly feminist or aimed at women and girls, then we have a problem. “

4. “The sign that a woman is right-wing is when you make a joke or even just mention some of the current claims on the internet about false claims made by hard-right far-right elements, she goes silent or says, ‘I don’t want to talk about that right now.’ Avoiding potentially unpleasant conversations to maintain false social decorum is a socially supported female role, and she may not want to change the current balance to defend far-right views and escalate.”

5. “One indicator is what’s on her dating profile. If she lists her religious beliefs but not her political views, or makes indifferent ‘apolitical’ mumbo-jumbo, that’s usually a sign.”

6. “I think one of the subtle signs among Republican women is excessive criticism of non-traditional gender roles. I was watching a show with a woman and she immediately started talking about a guy we saw on bar TV. The guy on the TV show had short hair but feminine facial features and a masculine clothing style. The woman sitting next to me started saying, ‘I don’t know what ‘that’ is.'” I didn’t find out the person’s politics, but I think criticizing someone’s appearance because they don’t fit into a binary category is a red flag. Even though no one asked her opinion, the woman felt the need to announce it. “

7. “Sometimes, one sign is if she says she likes ‘manly men.'”

9. “That’s a clue when they refuse to see gender as part of any hurtful experience you tell them.”

12. “The sign that a woman is on the right is whether she’s very much into the traditional wifey or country-core aesthetic, or giving up on things that aren’t ‘fashionable.’ That seems like a red flag to people who look down on non-traditional, lower-class, or non-white women.”

17. “A big red flag is when a woman talks about what God says a man should do, for example, provide for a family, and then proceeds to quote scripture to rationalize that she doesn’t want to be responsible in the relationship.”
