Parliamentary elections are underway for many legislative assemblies throughout April, with by-elections for parliament and some state assemblies on the horizon. Before you go out to vote, you should check that your name is on the electoral roll. You can easily check the voter rolls online to make sure your name is registered correctly. However, when you go out to vote, it is strongly recommended that you wear a protective mask and follow strict social distancing protocols given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The Election Commission will hold legislative assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal this month. Meanwhile, it is running by-elections for seven constituencies in parliament and many in the country’s 19 legislative assemblies.

How to Check Your Name on the Voters Roll

If you have a voter ID card, you should visit the National Voter Services Portal (NVSP) website to check that your name is correctly registered.

  1. Open the official website, and on the front page there will be an option called “Search the electoral roll”.

  2. Clicking the button will open another page where you can enter your details.

  3. The new webpage will show you two ways to check names on voters rolls.

  4. The first option is to search by details where you can enter your name, father/husband name, age/date of birth and gender. You will then enter your state, territory and parliamentary constituency.

  5. Another option is to search by EPIC number, which requires you to enter your EPIC number and state.

  6. For both options, you will have to authorize these details to the website by entering a captcha at the end.

  7. Once complete, the webpage should show you your voter registration details.
