Oppo Find X9 Pro First Impressions

Find X9 Pro, Oppo’s latest high-end flagship, was launched globally today at an event in Barcelona, Spain. Although the India launch is still a few weeks away, the company is already teasing the smartphone in the market.

Talking about global pricing, the Oppo Find X9 series starts at €999 (roughly Rs. 92,500) for the standard version of the X9, while the X9 Pro starts at €1,299 (roughly Rs. 133,600). It is important to note that these are global prices and currency conversions to Indian prices for reference purposes only and do not represent actual prices in India. So stay tuned to technology shout as soon as the India price is announced. Now, let’s dive into my first impressions of the Find X9 Pro after a few days of daily use.

Oppo Find X9 series launched in China earlier this month

Built like a (fashionable) tank

“That huge new camera block!” Well, that was my first reaction when I saw the new camera garnish of the Oppo Find X9 Pro. Oppo ditched the circular camera module on last year’s X8 series in favor of a square camera module, which looks more minimalist and premium. The new camera housing is also a bolder approach. The flat-edged aesthetic, along with subtle contours along the frame, adds high-end appeal and provides a comfortable grip during everyday use.

With a thickness of 8.25 mm, the Find X9 Pro is not the thinnest on the market, but its weight is balanced and more suitable for daily use, and it does not feel heavy even when used with one hand. Additionally, Oppo has added two physical buttons to the Find X9 Pro, the first of which is the Snap Key, which can be customized to launch a set of apps or functions, such as a voice recorder, flashlight, camera app, sound profile, translation or screenshot. Second is the shortcut button to launch the camera application, which appears on the Find X8 series for the first time. For added peace of mind, the Find X9 Pro comes with IP66, IP68 and IP69 protection ratings, making it one of the rare devices to offer all three protection levels in one device.

Find X9 Pro comes in silk white and titanium carbon black colors

Find X9 Pro is available in Silk White and Titanium Carbon colors. I bought the former, which is white with a pearlescent luster; the latter is white with a pearlescent luster. The company says the natural luster of fine silk was its inspiration. As I said before, the overall look feels minimalist, with soft tones adding to the elegance. I also saw the Find X9 Pro in Titanium Charcoal, which I prefer because of its non-reflective texture and darker hue.

The smartphone features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a resolution of 1272×2772 pixels. The display features Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which provides scratch-resistant protection, and supports a peak brightness of 3,600 nits.

The phone runs ColorOS 16 out of the box

With the Find X9 Pro, you can finally say “symmetrical bezels” because it has 1.15mm bezels on all four sides. The narrow-bezel flat panel monitor is a great multimedia device, but in my review it’s more about quality. It also comes with other additional features such as Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support. Oppo has opted for a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner on the Find X9 Pro, and it’s fast.

A new look for cameras

Jumping to the most important aspect of the device – the Hasselblad camera. Find X9 Pro features a 50-megapixel main camera (23mm), a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle (15mm) camera, and a 200-megapixel periscope (70mm) camera on the back. There is a 50-megapixel selfie camera on the front. The camera UI is familiar as I’ve seen on earlier devices, so there’s no big upgrade in that regard. The phone offers 0.6x (15mm), 1x (23mm), 2x (47mm), 3x (70mm), and 6x (140mm) optical zoom options.

The phone has a triple camera setup on the back

The 200-megapixel sensor is a vibrant sensor that offers more options for taking great telephoto photos. In my limited testing, I got sharper, more detailed zoom photos. At the product launch, OPPO executives also positioned the phone as the ultimate device for concerts, and it comes with a dedicated stage mode, which I’ll be trying out and sharing my experience in the review over the next few days.

Overall, the camera on the Find X9 Pro appears to be a massive upgrade over the existing Find X8 series, with a Hasselblad twist of course. There are tons of Hasselblad adjustment options in the camera. In terms of video, Find X9 Pro can record 4K 120fps video.

The camera UI on Find X9 Pro is familiar

Meet ColorOS 16 and MediaTek Flagship Chipset

Find X9 Pro also introduces ColorOS 16 and runs the new version out of the box. It features seamless animations, a new Flux home screen layout with adaptive icon packs, and the option to resize folders on the home screen. The latter has become increasingly popular in the Android space recently. The new version also brings Aqua Dynamics, which provides at-a-glance interactive information for your music, food delivery orders, or navigation.

Of course, the level of personalization has also been increased, including features such as full-screen AOD and dynamic photo support. ColorOS 16 also introduces Oppo’s new AI Mind Space, a unified center for quick reference. Additionally, this feature can be used for scheduling. For example, if you receive an invitation to a party, you can activate AI Mind Space with a three-finger swipe, and it will prompt you whether to save the event to your calendar. There’s also Gemini integration, which I’ll delve into in my review.

The phone is equipped with a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and a 7500mAh silicon carbon battery

Then there are other AI-specific features, such as an AI recorder and an AI writer, as well as other features built into the Gallery app.

Find X9 Pro is equipped with MediaTek’s new 3nm Dimensity 9500 processor and is equipped with a dedicated vapor chamber. In my limited time with the Find X9 Pro, the phone was fast at almost every task – more on that in the performance section of my review.

Although the body is only 8.25mm thick, this phone is equipped with a large 7500mAh battery. Supports 80W SUPERVOOC fast charging and 50W AIRVOOC. I’ll delve into the battery department in my review.

Stay tuned for my Oppo Find X9 review, which will be released next month.
