during an interview kicker, Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has hinted that Oliver Bowman will be the first-choice goalkeeper this summer.
The Hoffenheim goalkeeper has been first choice following Manuel Neuer’s retirement after Euro 2024 and injury problems for his replacement Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

When asked if Bowman would be No. 1 in the summer, Nagelsmann said:
“Oli will be the goalkeeper in March and will perform well again. My job, though, is always to assess the overall situation. I already said it at the time of the Nations League draw that one factor is Mark and the other is that Ollie was doing well in the World Cup qualifiers and is now doing well in the league. He rarely has a goal that is clearly wrong and occasionally makes impossible saves.”
Later added:
“If Ollie stays as fit and consistent as he is now, he’s going to have a great World Cup. We’re definitely not worried about the goalkeeper position. There are other aspects that I’m more worried about.”
Germany’s new No. 1 Oliver Baumann?
The 35-year-old found himself in this position more or less unexpectedly after retirement and injury, with Bowman continuing to retain his place in the starting eleven despite threats from young goalkeepers such as Alexander Nübel and rumors of Manuel Neuer returning to the national team.
Apart from Ter Stegen’s Nations League semi-final appearance, the 35-year-old has been the team’s first-choice goalkeeper for more than a year and has participated in every World Cup qualifier.
