Nintendo Announces Splatoon Raiders Spinoff Title for Switch 2 Alongside Splatoon 3 Update

A new Splatoon game is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo announced the first spin-off game in the series, Splatoon Raiders, on Tuesday. Originally teased on Nintendo Today! In the app, a trailer for the game was released alongside a major update for Splatoon 3, which will be released this week. Splatoon Raiders will be set on the “mysterious” Spirhalite Islands, with players taking on the role of a mechanic. The game will launch as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive.

Splatoon Raiders revealed

The trailer shows off some Splatoon gameplay but doesn’t reveal any details about a release date. “Players will take on the role of a mechanic and join the gorgeous Deep Cut trio on an adventure in the mysterious Spiral Salt Islands,” Nintendo said in a blog post. The company said it will share more information about the game in the future.

Splatoon 3 free update

Meanwhile, Splatoon 3 will receive a free update on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on June 12. The 10.0.0 update will bring enhanced visuals and smoother performance to certain locations such as Splatsville and the Grand Festival Grounds on Switch 2. Nintendo also confirmed that Splatoon 3 will support cross-play between the Switch and Switch 2.

In addition to gameplay enhancements on Nintendo Switch 2, the version 10.0.0 update will add the Splatlands collection, which includes 30 new weapon sets from the Barazushi and Emberz brands. Weapons have a new look, with different secondary weapons and special weapons. Splatoon 3 will also get the Urchin Underpass level, a return level from the original Splatoon on Wii U.

The update will also increase the freshness cap for all weapons and add new in-game badges for players. It will also bring new weapon statistics and a matchmaking system based on it to match players of similar strength.

The Nintendo Switch 2 debuted with just one major first-party game – Mario Kart World. The 3D Donkey Kong game “Donkey Kong Bananza” will be released exclusively on Switch 2 next month.
