Sixteen teams will compete for the national championship over two weekends, and if recent editions are any indication, it can be taken by anyone. Last year, two of the four national seeds lost in the first round and only one, No. 4 seed and eventual champion Western Michigan, made the Frozen Four.
The Mustangs return as the No. 4 seed trying to defend their title in a season where the balance of power has tilted heavily toward the Great Lakes State. Michigan is the No. 1 seed after winning the Big Ten title, while MSU enters the tournament as a No. 3 seed.
