Two seemingly contradictory statements may both be true. Yes, there is no denying that Milton Williams will always have a special place in the hearts of Philadelphia Eagles fans. Still, without asking any of them, we can imagine other things being true. The sight of him these days might make them sick to their stomachs as he trades Midnight and Kelly Green for red, white and blue New England Patriots jerseys.
Of course, there is no animosity, nor should there be. Williams did what anyone in his position would do and secured a financial future for him and his family. It’s been known for a long time that he would be worth a huge amount in free agency after Super Bowl LIX, and there was no way Philly would be able to pay him what he could make if he left the team to secure a bigger payday.

The decision to leave was as expected. On March 13, 2025, he signed a four-year contract worth $104 million. That makes him the Patriots’ highest-paid player ever. Now, look where he is. He returned to Super Bowl week to take in all the festivities and was asked about the differences between fans in New England and those who live in the City of Brotherly Love.
He may have a point. As tired as Eagles fans are of throwing snowballs at Santa, they’re probably just as tired of hearing about the cells at Veterans Stadium and the judges who are hired to work on game days.
On the other hand, it’s a chance for a familiar face to land in rarefied air. If the Patriots win Super Bowl X, he will become the sixth player to win back-to-back Super Bowls with two different teams, joining LeGarrette Blount, Chris Long, LeSean McCoy, Ken Norton Jr. and Deion Sanders.

Blount and Long won, first the Patriots, then the Eagles (LII). Could Williams do this in reverse order? See you on Sunday.
