Michigan’s Yaxel Lendeborg and UConn’s Solo Ball set to start in national title game

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Michigan forward Axel Lundberg and UConn guard Solo Ball will both start in Monday night’s national championship game.

Both players were injured in Saturday’s Final Four game, but promised they would be ready to compete for a title.

Lundberg injured his left ankle and left knee within five minutes of Michigan’s 91-73 victory over Arizona State. The All-American and Big Ten Player of the Year played 10 more minutes in the second half and made two 3-pointers. After the game, Lundborg, Michigan’s leading scorer with 15.1 points per game, said there was “no way” he would miss Monday night.

He did not practice Sunday and was not available to take questions from reporters because he was receiving treatment for an injury.

The Wolverines are seeking their second championship in school history and first since 1989 to end the Big Ten’s 26-year national title drought.

Ball sprained his left foot in UConn’s 71-62 win over Illinois and wore a walking boot on Sunday.
