The Green Bay Packers turned Malik Willis into a free agent quarterback who will make a lot of money.

But rumors that Willis could sign a $25 million or $30 million per year contract have raised eyebrows.

One of them is Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner. Warner believes the potential cost is “insane” given what is currently known about Willis.

“I took a break from draft prep the past few years to start working on #MalikWillis tape because he was one of the hottest names heading into free agency!” Warner wrote on the X. “My conclusion is that having literally 28 dropbacks (I took out screens, a quick throw for 5 yards and a quick crawl) over the past two years will determine his future! If we’re talking $25-30M per year, that’s crazy to think about! #StudyBall is here so you can give your opinion and assessment!”

On one hand, Warner is right.

Willis struggled with the Titans and only found his way with the Packers while occasionally backing up Jordan Love. Not a huge sample size here.

On the other hand, it would be unfair to say Willis is being judged solely on his base performance. Willis will have to undergo a thorough examination given his running talents. Whoever signs him will make him a dual-threat rather than just a drop-back passer.

Ultimately, Warner’s feelings don’t matter either. Multiple teams are in need of a quarterback, and Willis is the obvious choice in free agency. If a bidding war begins, he could end up with a handsome reward.

Maybe this is crazy. But that’s also how this offseason is set up, whether Warner likes it or not.

Willis just needs to prove himself, wherever he goes, to make Warner a believer.
