In Norfolk, westbound traffic on Interstate 64 is moving to the right, to the outside of the roadway, between Tidewater Drive and Little Creek Road. The transition is expected to take place on Sunday, December 14th. This will allow crews to continue roadwork, barrier installation, bridge repairs, striping and installation of signage in the inside lanes. This traffic pattern is expected to continue until mid-2026.

A series of temporary nighttime ramp closures are also scheduled to close as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., including the I-64 West on- and off-ramps to and from Tidewater Drive (Exit 277A/B) and the off-ramp to Little Creek Drive (Exit 276C).

Hampton

Starting as early as Tuesday, Dec. 16, traffic will be moved to the outside lane between Mallory Street and Settlers Landing Road in Hampton so construction crews can work on the inside lane. This configuration is expected to last until mid-2026.

Temporary nighttime ramp closures are planned from 9pm to 5am to implement traffic diversions. These closures will include on-ramps from Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road to I-64 west, and on- and off-ramps from Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road (Exit 267) to and from I-64 east.

Detour routes will be clearly marked.

The Hampton Roads Express Lanes project begins in the summer of 2023 and involves converting existing lanes into express lanes and general purpose lanes, as well as widening and repaving the interstate. The project also includes work on six mainline bridges and a pedestrian underpass. When completed, HREL will be a continuous 45-mile express lane network on I-64.
