Levante, now just five points behind safety, had secured a much-needed victory over Alaves. Victor Parada was sent off just before the hour mark, but it was not until the 88th minute that Carlos Espy scored the first goal and sealed the victory with his second goal in stoppage time.

Espanyol were beaten twice by Elche on Sunday. Kike Garcia equalized seven minutes from time and Marc Aguado equalized before half-time before Carlos Romero made it 2-1 and Rafa Mir converted a late penalty to secure a game that had been overshadowed by accusations of racism against Mir.

Valencia out of relegation zone, Osasuna left behind

Real Betis were held to a draw by Sevilla in their second derby match of the season. Anthony and January signing Alvaro Fidalgo gave the hosts a two-goal lead at half-time, but goals from Alexia Sanchez and Isaac Romero ensured a share of the spoils in La Catuja.
