John Elway doesn’t like this pro-quarterback penalty

In the words of Mike Singletary, John Elway comes from the old school. The Denver Broncos legend played in a more unforgiving era when quarterbacks didn’t have the heavenly protection they have today. So when the topic comes to his former teammate and Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe club shea shea, Elway had a few words to say.

While speaking with Sharpe, Elway lamented the rule that penalizes defensive players for touching a quarterback’s helmet. On Elway’s part, this isn’t tough play around the league.

“I can’t stand the thought of a quarterback getting hit in the head with his hand, and that’s a penalty,” Elway said. “I thought, ‘Why is he wearing a helmet?’ … I don’t remember any quarterback going to the tent after getting hit by the hand.”

Elway has the misfortune of being the old man on the porch, but he makes a good point. Check out the entire clip for more context.
