Jenning de Boo, who finished behind Jordan Stolz for Olympic silver medals in the 500m and 1,000m, beat Stolz in three of four races on Thursday and Friday to win the world sprint championships at his home rink in Heerenveen, Netherlands.

De Boo set the fastest times in the 500m and 1000m on Thursday and the 500m on Friday at the famous Thialf Arena. Later Friday, Stoltz posted the fastest 1,000-meter time, but it wasn’t enough to overtake Stoltz in the overall standings. The four results are added together to determine the sprint world champion.

World All-Around Championship action continues on Saturday and Sunday, live Peacock.

Stoltz is the only skater competing in the sprint championships and expected to compete in the all-around, which typically favors more distance-oriented skaters.

The men’s all-around includes 500m, 1500m, 5000m and 10,000m, and the overall performance determines the champion. Women’s races include 500m, 1500m, 3000m and 5000m.
