director of homeland security Kristi Noem She faced a Senate panel on Tuesday and was grilled on her claim that ICE shooting victims were “domestic terrorists.”
The heated moment came as Noem was being questioned by senators before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill. Dick Durbin (D-IL) If she retracts her original statement Alex Pretty and Renee Goode They were “domestic terrorists” when they were shot and killed by ICE agents in Minnesota earlier this year.
He then asked where she got the information, adding that Homeland Security agents testified under oath that Pretty was not a domestic terrorist.
Noem responded that her initial account came from local agents, adding that it was a “chaotic scene.”
“Do you think calling victims of violence ‘domestic terrorists’ is an attempt to defuse the scene?” Durbin shot back.
Durbin then asked Noem to explain why she thought calling the victim “who we all saw on video and was killed” would defuse a “chaotic situation.”
“Is it that hard to say you’re wrong and retract?” Durbin pressed. “When you fail, do you admit it publicly?”
As Noem responded, a woman suddenly stood up and yelled that Americans were being killed by ICE. She was quickly escorted out by security.
Durbin then turned to another question.
