In a surprise injury update for the No. 12 Iowa women’s basketball (8-0) program on Dec. 4, Hawkeyes head coach Jan Jensen revealed that the team will have to overcome another setback in the 2025-26 season as fan-favorite senior forward Jada Gyamfi is expected to miss approximately three months following recent knee surgery.
“While this is an unfortunate setback for Jada, I know she will continue to be an outstanding Hawkeye teammate during her recovery,” Jensen said.
The 6-foot-1 senior forward from Johnston, Iowa, has been one of the most popular Hawkeyes throughout her career despite seeing little action on the court.

So far in her career, she has played in 43 games and scored 55 points on 46.8% shooting. She is a member of the 2023 and 2024 NCAA national runner-up teams.
While Gyamfi’s long-term absence won’t necessarily hurt the Hawkeyes’ immediate production on the field, it will test their depth in the long run.
Fortunately for Gyamfi and Iowa State, the senior forward has the potential to compete in the postseason if her recovery goes well and meets expectations.
Iowa will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 8 at Jersey Mike’s Arena in Piscataway, New Jersey, when the Hawkeyes take on Rutgers in the Big Ten regular-season opener. The game against the Scarlet Knights is scheduled to begin at 5 pm Central Time and will air on FS1.
