Boston retains its wild-card spot, while the Bruins have several areas to improve. Prior to the deadline, NHL Phase 4 insider David Paniotta revealed that the team was looking to add a right-shooting defenseman and a top-six forward.

“The Boston Bruins are looking to address two issues with the club before the trade deadline begins next Friday, with general manager Don Sweeney in the market for a top-six forward and a right-shooting defenseman,” Paniotta wrote.

Boston has been linked to multiple defensive players, but Paniotta reported that the Bruins are also focused on adding one more.

“Boston is also in the market for forward help, and the club’s first choice is to add another center, although they are not opposed to strengthening themselves on the wing,” Paniotta added.

Whether the Bruins can fill those needs before Friday’s trade deadline remains to be seen. But Boston has the cap space and assets to make some moves happen.

The Bruins currently have just over $4.5 million in cap space.

Following Saturday’s loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, the Bruins are now 33-21-5.
