Demand for 5G-enabled devices is picking up as India’s tablet market grew 22% month-on-month in July-September, CyberMedia Research said on Monday.
CMR expects a healthy 10-15% growth in tablet shipments in 2022.
During the quarter, Samsung led the market with a 28 percent share, followed by Lenovo and Apple with 26 percent and 19 percent, respectively.
CMR’s Q3 2022 Tablet Market Report commented: “India’s tablet market grew 22% QoQ, with 5G tablet shipments accelerating ahead of the festive season.”
8-inch tablet shipments accounted for 43% of the total shipments in the Indian market.
“5G tablet shipments continue to grow in Q3 2022. This is driven by recent 5G auctions and the beginning of the 5G era. Growth in 5G tablets is in line with trends in the 5G smartphone market,” CMR, Analyst – Industrial Intelligence Group, said Menka Kumari.
Samsung Tab A8 (Wi-Fi and 4G) and Tab A7 Lite (Wi-Fi and 4G) accounted for 25% and 18% of the market, respectively.
“Samsung’s shipments will record a quarter-on-quarter growth of 83% in the third quarter of 2022,” the report said.
Lenovo ranked second in the entire region, mainly driven by its commercial business and retail market.
Apple iPad 9 (Wi-Fi) and Apple iPad Air 2022 (Wi-Fi) accounted for 57% and 15% of the market, respectively, followed by Apple iPad Pro 2021 (Wi-Fi) at 8% and Apple iPad Air 2022 (Wi-Fi) Fi) Fi) accounted for 6% of the tablet market.
“Apple iPad shipments recorded a 26% sequential growth in the third quarter of 2022,” the report said.
