Video editing can be a tricky field, and as a video editor I’m pretty sure you must have come across a situation where you had to show certain screenshots in your video and highlight them while the anchor or presenter read the sentence aloud.
Sometimes, editors have to focus on certain key phrases in sentences, which sometimes get lost in the anchor’s narration. So, how do you make these parts stand out? Simply highlight them just like we did in school and college days. But don’t scribble on your monitor, we have a better way to do it in Premiere Pro.
Create a mask around the sentence
Make sure the sentence is in the middle of the frame for better visibility
- use Rectangle tool Create a mask around your sentence. Make sure the mask covers the entire sentence.
- Now, go to Effect control and open shape settings.
- Here, open populate tab and change the color of the fill. We recommend yellow as it tends to be the most eye-catching.
- Once completed, you can now enter Opacity tab and change blend mode from Ordinary arrive take.
- This will highlight the sentence and make it stand out from other sentences.
Add animation to highlighted graphics
Crop tool will help you add animation to graphics
- Go to Effect and search crops.
- Add to crop effect Go to the graphics layer you just created.
- Now, go to Effect control And under the cropping effect, change correct values to 100.
- Now, click on the stopwatch button, this will create a keyframe.
- Go to the last frame of the video and now change correct values to 0.
- If you play the video, you can see that the highlighting effect has a little animation.
- To make the animation smoother, right click on the keyframe and select Ease in.
