Amazon is probably the world’s largest source of legitimate eBooks, whether through the various Kindle apps you can find on your mobile device or even on your computer, or through a Kindle eBook reader. We’ve used the Kindle Paperwhite and the new 7th Gen Kindle and love using Amazon’s ebook readers, but storing all of our books on a single device or cloud isn’t ideal. Fortunately, if you want to back up your legally purchased books for your Kindle, doing so is easy. This can be useful, for example, if you accidentally delete a book while on vacation and you don’t have internet access. If you have books backed up on your laptop, this kind of problem shouldn’t be a problem at all.

So making this backup can be very useful, and it won’t take you more than five minutes to do so. That’s it:

If you have a Kindle eBook reader, follow the steps below.

  1. Connect your Kindle to your computer via a USB cable. The device will appear as an external drive.

  2. go my computer And open the drive like any pen drive connected to the computer.

  3. All your eBooks will be in a folder labeled document.

  4. Copy this folder to your computer.

  5. If you accidentally delete a book from your Kindle, you can always paste the backup document Folder back to Kindle.

If you don’t use an ebook reader but still want to back up, you need Internet access to view books stored in the cloud. You can read these books on any device—phone, computer, or even an e-reader; all the books you buy through Amazon are available over the Internet.

  4. To make a backup, all you need to do is copy the folder where Amazon keeps the book.

On Windows 8, you can C:\Users\your username\AppData\Local\Amazon\Kindle\application\content. Windows XP, Vista and 7 need to go to C:\Users\yourusername\Documents\My Kindle Content. On a Mac, you will ~/Documents/My Kindle Content.

  5. Copy your eBooks from these locations to another location on your computer.

By taking these simple steps, you can back up all your books, whether from your Kindle e-reader or using one of the Kindle apps. You can now read these books on your computer using the Amazon app, but what if you want to send these files to your phone or tablet after they’ve been backed up? While Amazon’s Windows app lets you read Kindle books offline, Calibre is a great option. Using Calibre is easy, just follow these steps:
